Purpose: analysis of theoretical or applied grounds of operation of the individual farms under the condition of formation of the market mechanisms in the economy. Methods: analisis of the dynamics, monographical, deductive, inductive, generalization, fill-inthe-blank poll, comparison, statistical grouping, graphical, mathematical programming, dialectal, abstract-logical, cause-and-effect relation. Results: the theory of the private property and private farming in the agrarian sphere is examined; a new position of the formation and function of the individual farming in the system agrarian production is revealed; the directions of long development of the private farming are substantiated. For the first time: Methodological appoach as to determining labour consumption in private farms taking into account the number of persons in a family and daily expences of men and women's labour in busy summer period according to 6 compounds is substantiated the level of the self-providing of private farms in Poltava oblast with farm products according to rational standards of their consuming. Methods: of determining of conditinal income of private farms in Poltava oblast received from selling their production and evaluated according to market prices during the period of the mass harvesting in the present year; methods of determining the level of production of farm products, milk, in particual, which is the basic product in private farms; and lactation curve of the produced milk is drawn according to the guantity of the produced milk in the region; methods of calculation of economic effectivness of pedigree work in private sector of Poltava oblast, which provides for more complete determination of incomes of private farms owners taking into account the increase milk yields as to realisation and consumption; understanding social and economic role of private farms in Poltava oblast, which are leaders in providing the population with niche farm products in the conditions of reformed sector of agrarian economy are improved. Research: of methodological points as to the essence, spheres and demonstration relations, their interconnections with types of farming, substation of the direction of increasing the level of competitiveness among private farms at the agrarian market thanks to voluntary cooperation into cooperative structures, which improves understanding the essense, the purpose and principles of the cooperation and in such way the agrarian policy.
