Melnik T. Folklore traditions in V.Shukshyn's creative activity

The folklore traditions in V.Shukshyn's creative activity are systematically investigated in this research paper. The theoretical definition of the concept "tradition in literature" is made more exact, the analysis of folklore traditions on different levels of the writer's activity - themes, motive organization, system of images, symbolism, spaciousness, time, plot, composition, language, style, genre - is made. The traditional themes and motives which were developed in the artist's heritage (the sense of life, the fight of kindness and evil, hero's traveling for truth, fairness, freedom, soul, search for happiness, anguish, loneliness, going away/back, life/death, moral testing of the person, etc.) are defined, their evolution in writer's works of different periods are observed. The folklore models of plot and composition which are used by V.Shukshyn are researched. The basic groups of folklore symbols in writer's creative activity (phenomena of nature, birds, animals, plants, colors, numbers, abstract concepts) are considered. This research paper defines the place of folklore genres in the writer's creative system. The influence of folklore on V.Shukshyn's language and style is reflected. The variety of forms of mastering (allusion, reminiscention, stylization, etc.) and function (moral and ethic, imaginative, narrative, genre made, stylistic etc.) of folklore traditions in the writer's creativity are noted. The significance of folklore informing of artist's creative concept, the development of his creative method are discovered.
