The thesis deals with the problem concerning teaching written communication in German by means of electronic mail for students of language departments. The methodology has been theoretically substantiated. The linguistic analysis of e-mail letters and e-mail advertisements has been carried out, what is more extralinguistic, linguistic as well as speech standards of these genres have been determined. Socio-cultural peculiarities of e-mail letters of the Ukrainians and Germans have been researched. The aim and the content of teaching have been selected. The stages of teaching have been determined and the complex of exercises and two teaching models have been created. The effectiveness of suggested methodology has been verified and confirmed in the course of experimental teaching. Methodological recommendations have been developed and applied in practice in the process of intermediate level teaching at the linguistic departments of higher educational institutions.
