Object - the creative work of M.P. Artsybashev and the literary process of the end ХIХ - beginning ХХ centuries, peculiarities of the realism of the Russian literature; goal - to research the novel of M.P. Artsybashev "Sanin" in the context of the Russian literature of the end ХIХ - beginning ХХ centuries, to state the value of its ideological and artistic peculiarities from the present day positions; methods - descriptive, social-genetic, comparative-typological and the method of system analysis; novelty - the appraisal of the novel of M.P. Artsybashev from the positions of the contemporary methodology in the context of the creative work of the writer and in the literary process of the beginning ХХ century, the place and meaning of the work is defined in the history of the Russian literature; results - usage of materials of the dissertation by Russian literature historians, teachers of philological faculties in the course of the history of the Russian literature of the ХХ century and in special courses and special seminars; specialty - Russian literature.
