Essay

The thesis is dedicated to study of copper(III) and copper(II) mono- and polynuclear complexes, which can be used as synthetic models of mono- and polynuclear active sites of enzymes, with tetradentate open chain ligands of oxime-and-hydrazide and oxime-and-amide types, which can stabilise the oxidative state 3+; study of structural, spectral, magnetic and electrochemical properties of these species in order to fine tuning of molecular parameters and redox-potentials; to make a conclusion about correlations between the structural and spectral characteristics of the complexes and their redox and magnetic properties. The synthetic methods for 40 novel co-ordination compounds have been elaborated. The compounds have been isolated in individual state and characterised by variety of analytical and physico-chemical methods. By means of X-ray single crystal analysis the structures of 9 complex compounds (including 1 complex of copper(III)) were determined. The magnetic susceptibility temperature dependence studies of bi- and tetranuclear copper(II) complexes was carried out. The effect of influence of donor groups, nature and additional metal ion donor environment on Cu3+/2+ redox-potential value in the redox-active centre in polynuclear compounds has been investigated by cyclic voltammetry.
