Madyar O. The grammatical gender category of nouns in Slovak language

The object of the research are the nouns of Slavic and foreign origin in Slovak language. The aim of the research is to investigate the main tendencies of development of the gender category of nouns of Slovak language. The comparative, historical-comparative, descriptive and statistical methods are used. The dissertation is one of the first attempts of complex research of the gender category of nouns in Slovak language on the basis of slavic languages, within tne facts of the history of language, the dialects and the existing various grammatical gender meanings in synchrony, which are observed with their semantical, formal and stylistical differentiation, for the first time this grammatical category is investigated in the context of Slovak-Ukrainian interferention, the ways of adaptation of nouns of foreign origin from languages, that don’t have the gender category at all or have a gender classification within two grammemes are described. The sphere of use is philology.
