Essay

In the thesis the genre approach for treating the poetry of Russian Emigre writers of 1920-1930s is used for the first time. The research showed the leading role of the canonic genres (elegy, epistle etc.) in the development of this poetic culture. This finding helps to correct the accepted views on the develop-ment of lyric genres in the literature of the 20th century. The ways of renewal of non-canonic genres (little lyric poem) are described; the cases of arts synthesis are analyzed, showing the connection of the Russian emigre poetry with the Silver Age. It is also argued that the first wave emigre writers' turn to other genres was "the abandoning the speech" (O. Mandelstam) whilst the early modernism was definitely logo-centric. The work aims to help solve the question of tradition and innovation and to contribute to the for-mation of holistic approach to the Russian Literature of the 20th century.
