Kharitonenko E. Figurative image in works of M.Yu.Lermontov: structure, semantics, functions.

The comprehensive analysis of figurative image in works of M.Yu.Lermontov is accomplished in the thesis. A term 'figurative' stands for the sort of literature image where an author especially emphasizes a physical, visual origin of the image. The candidate for a degree describes prerequisites for the rise of specific attitude to such parameters of the image as visualization, corporeal existence, figuration at the beginning of the XIX century; analyzes techniques used by M.Yu.Lermontov to create an effect of artistic vision in his works which allow a reader to perceive author's descriptions as a 'picture'; defines a system of determinants of figurative image in works of the writer and classifies the images depending on the objects or phenomena which underlie them. Particular attention is paid for the investigation of an influence that ideas of material, 'corporeal' nature of words and thoughts, which were actual for that time period, exerted upon works of M.Yu.Lermontov. The thesis proves that some figurative images act as 'carriers' of through motives in the works of the writer. On the whole the subject investigated in the thesis contributes to discovery of creative position of M.Yu. Lermontov on the problems of synthesis of arts, specific character of literature image.
