Essay

The thesis focuses on the improvement of diagnosing epilepsy as well as the optimization of its treatment by means of complex study of clinical characteristics and the state of cerebral metabolism indices (NAA/Cr, Cho/Cr, mIns/Cr). The first complex clinical and instrumental study has been done in children with epilepsy by applying magnetic resonance spectroscopy of brain. The metabolic disorders in the cortical parts of brain as a decrease of NAA/Cr level coincided with the location of epileptic focus in the patients aged from 6 months up to 3 years with symptomatic epilepsies. The non-specific changes in the indices of cerebral metabolism of NAA/Cr, Cho/Cr, mIns/Cr were detected in the patients aged 4-16 with idiopathic and symptomatic epilepsy. The results of the research can improve the existent treatment regiments of epilepsy by instituting additive therapy combined with base antiepileptic drugs. It is to favour the efficiency of treating patients with symptomatic epilepsy.
