Zhukova K. Poetics of Ukrainian melodrama of end XIX - early ХХ centuries. (after L. Yanovskaya, I. Togobochniy).

The dissertation investigates genre-compositional and style peculiarities of Ukrainian melodrama of end XIX - early ХХ centuries, based on dramaturgy material of L. Yanovskaya, I. Togobochniy. Basic features and tendencies of genre development are defined as a result of analysis of classes and sub-classes of this form, techniques of character creation and subject creation, (progression of everyday melodrama into psychological (after L. Yanovskaya), and into social (after I. Togobochniy). Dissertation devotes special attention to analysis of poetical melodrama techniques and their functional role: emphasis and inversion of text, contrasts of characters as a basic melodrama intrigue (villain- benefactor), use of caricature and grotesque in melodramas-comedies and purple finals melodramas-comedies. A special role of composition-notional means in this genre, such as chance, mystery, sudden, etc., is investigated (S. Baluchatiy). The technique of inner conflict is widely used in psychological melodramas ofL. Ynovskaya.
