The object is portrait descriptions in M. Kotsubinsky's works; the purpose is to specify lingual and stylistic peculiarities of portrait characteristics in the writer's works; the methods are descriptive and analytical, textological, the method of semantic and stylistic analysis, the method of confrontation; the novelty lies in analyzing for the first time the peculiarities of portrait descriptions in works by M. Kotsubsnsky from the point of view of their structural and semantic organization in different periods of his creative work, studying lexical and stylistical means of creating portrait descriptions; the results are to define the lingual status of portrait descriptions, to create the structural and semantic classification of portrait units, to reveal and investigate lexical and semantic means that are known to be the core of any portrait unit and analyze means of expressiveness of portrait nominations
