The thesis deals with the etymological, motive-semantic and word-forming analysis of oikonyms in Poltavska Region. The work is devoted to the research of the problems of the content,origin, structural-semantic pecularities and functioning of names of settlements of the about mentioned region. There was compiled the dictionary of oikonyms of Poltavska Region wich determines their funktioning, location and sertification. The dictionary also generalizes the data about the origin and the semantics of 2 689 oikonyms in their contemporary form.
