Essay

The dissertation is devoted to the study of the interpretation of Christian symbols, motifs and images in the poetic writings of Ukrainian Catholic writers of the so-called 'Logos-group' and of Bohdan-Ihor Antonych. The author attempted at delimiting the semantic field of the term 'sacrum'. For this purpose we had to propose a definition of religious, biblical and Christian symbolism. The dissertation offers the reflections on the concept of Ukrainian 'Catholic literature', as well as suggest certain criteria of assessing whether an individual work belong to it or not. We try to sketch the spectrum of the views and ideas of the Ukrainian Catholic authors.
