Essay

The thesis is devoted to the analysis of transformation of aesthetic symbolism by the example of the short stories of M. Yatskiv, O. Plyushch, I. Lypa, comprehension of specificity of symbolism at the beginning of the 20th century. It is the first attempt to reveal the immanent essence of the Ukrainian symbolism by representatives of prosaists, whose creative work is studied within the context of the world symbolism. On the basis of the research of numerous materials the author persuasively proves that symbolism in the Ukrainian short stories of the late XIX and early XX centuries developed as a well pronounced style which interacted with neoromantism, impressionism, expressionism and other styles. There was confirmed the deferences in the creation of the new aesthetic and semantic fieldes of M. Yatskiv, individualist O. Plyushch as molodomusivets, the idiostyle of I. Lypa. As a results of detailed analysis of the short stories, there was shown that the Ukrainian short stories considering the symbols allegories, mythologems, archetypical images.
