The thesis presents a scientific investigation of the polysemy of the concrete physical action verbs in the modern Ukrainian literary language. The semantic and functional aspects of the multivalued concrete physical action verbs are investigated on the material of three lexico-semantic groups of verbs with the primary meanings "to build", "to destroy" and "to deform" which have been transformed into the appropriate microgroups. The first part of the research work reviews the theoretical principles of lexical polysemy and specific character of semantic organization of a word, the essence of the notions "lexeme", "sememe", "seme", and the types of the meanings including usual generally known meanings and peripheral meanings such as the archaic ones, the slangy ones and the occasionalisms. The second part of the dissertation focuses upon the valency and semantic structure of the concrete physical action verbs which have the primary meaning "to build something". The concluding part of the research work presents the analysis of the secondary lexico-semantic variants attaining by the concrete physical action verbs which have the primary meanings "to destroy" and "to deform something".
