Essay

The dissertation submits the results of a study of the influence of prenatal stress on individual mechanisms of regulating the reproductive function and stress reactivity in three month old rats of diverse sex. It has been established that prenatal stress disturbs GABA- and serotoninergic regulation of the luteinizing hormone and testosterone secretion in males, estradiol and progesterone – in females. A study of the system cyclic nucleotides in the structures of the limbico-hypothalamic complex of the brain has demonstrated sexual dimorphism of their content in the control animals. Under the influence of prenatal stress there occurs feminization of the cGMP content in the cerebral septum of males and the loss of sexual dimorphism the content of cAMP and cGMP, the cyclase index in the mediobasal hypothalamus and amygdaloid complex. A higher level of the functioning of the prooxidant-antioxidant homeostasis occurs in females compared with males according to the parameters of lipid peroxidation, oxidative protein modification and the activity of antioxidant enzymes in the brain structures of the control animals. Sexual dimorphism of the influence of prenatal stress on the prooxidant-antioxidant interrelations in the cerebral structures includes more considerable disturbances of the activity of antioxidant enzymes in females and essential changes of oxidative protein modification in males.
