Test object: calf barns of light-weight construction & calf barns of rigid construction, heifers & first-calf heifers of Red Steppe & the second filial generation crosses of Holstein bulls & out-bred Red Steppe & Black-White cows. Subject of scientific research: housing conditions in the calf barns of light- weight & rigid construction, developmental & growth rate, reproductive capacity & adaptivity of the heifers, milk productivity of the first-calf heifers. Investigation methods: hygienic, zoo-technical, hematological, immuno-logical, histological, biometrical & economical techniques. Scientific development: organoleptic estimate of replacement heifers of Red Steppe & 3/4Г1/4ЧР, 3/4Г1/4ЧС genotype crosses was executed during early developmental stage in the calf barns of light - weight construction. The animals are kept in the severe continental climate in the east of Ukraine. The experimental data on developmental & growth rate, reproductive capacity & adaptivity were obtained. Favorable effect onthe replacement heifers of the above-mentioned breeds kept in the calf barns of the light – weight construction was evident. Significance of effect: 6-months old age heifer management in the calf barns of the light. The animals are kept in the severe continental climate conditions. Such management system procures cold hardiness of the animals at the early developmental stage & it betters developmental & growth rate up to the 18-months old age. Keeping in the calf barns of light – weight construction improves reproductive capacity of the animals & milk productivity.
