Essay

The dissertation focuses on Ukrainian and English slang lingvocultural peculiarities. The thesis includes contrastive, structural, descriptive and classifying methods, quantitative analysis. The paper identified the ontological characteristics of slang, argot, jargons and specified the lexical substandard terminological system. It established the semantic ideographical structuring principles of the Ukrainian and English slang. There was created a semantic ideographical model that distributed the slang lexical units to the following lexical semantic fields: “The names of the living beings: humans and animals”, “The names of the humans’ economical activity products, their technical and social activity names” and “The names of the abstract concepts: phenomena, situations, events”. On the basis of the created classification the author performed a semantic ideographical representation of the Ukrainian and English slang lexicon. The qualitative and quantitative contrasting of the lexicon enabled the identification of the common and peculiar features in the slang world mapping of the languages under investigation.
