Essay

The thesis is devoted to analysis of the existential paradigm in L. Tolstoy's creativity, the central components of which are: description of "marginal situation", determining the peculiarities of narration, creating the typology of existential characters, examining existen-tial categories like "boredom", "nausea", "the absurdity of existence", "fear of death", "loneliness", "panic of reflected consciousness", "real / unreal" opposition and positive ex-istential "love". In the context of the existential paradigm in Leo Tolstoy's creativity the type of "existential consciousness" is researched. It is fully manifested and realized in all forms of genres. It is shown that in a "marginal situation" the existential hero acquires the features of a "doomed character", "lost character", "rebel character", "awaking character" and "tied character". The study of the existential paradigm in Leo Tolstoy's creativity demonstrates that the writer anticipates the main theses of existential problems in literature andphilosophy of the XX century and determines vectors of development of the literary process on at the turn of the centuries.
