The thesis is devoted to the investigation of theoretical and practical problems of constitutional and legal status of the capital of Ukraine - Kyiv city. The legal nature of constitutional and legal status of the capital of Ukraine - Kyiv city is researched, its main elements are defined. The author's definitions of the capital of Ukraine - Kyiv city, its constitutional and legal status are formulated. The functions of the capital of Ukraine - Kyiv city, additional competition of the bodies of local self-government and guaranties of realization by Kyiv city the capital functions are analized. The practical proposals on improvement of valid legislation that defined special status of the capital of Ukraine - Kyiv city are given. The problems of organization and activity of the bodies of local self-government in Kyiv city are researched.
