Object: malignancy of thyroid follicular epithelium. Aim of study: Definition of new markers of malignancy of thyroid epithelium and prognosis of radioiodine-resistant metastases of papillary thyroid carcinoma. Methods and the equipment: morphological, cytochemical, immunocytocemical, statistical; microscope Olympus CX41, cryostate MK25, incubator INC-4. Theoretical and practical results: New ideas have been developed about alterations of iodperoxidase activity during malignization and about alterations in thyrocyte cytoskeleton during development of radioiodine metastases of papillary carcinoma. New methods of prognosis of radioiodine-resistant metastases were workd out. Novelty: for the first time, it was established that the cytochemical detection of activity of iodperoxidase in neoplastic thyroid cells could be useful in preoperative cytological diagnosis of malignant thyroid tumors. It was revealed that in papillary carcinomas with radioiodine metastases the percentage of cytokeratin-17-positive epithelial cells was increased. A correlation was shown between effectiveness of radioiodine therapy and the number of cytokeratin-17-positive cells in cytological material obtained by fine needle aspiration biopsy. Introduction: The major part of developed methods were patented and put into practice. Field of application: endocrinology, oncology.
