Essay

The influence of isotopic and isomorphous substitutions, as well as the temperature evolution of structure on crystal optical, dielectric and dilatometric properties of nonlinear anisotropic dielectrics with parent centrosymmetric phase is studied. The optical activity in the nonlinear dielectrics with centrosymmetric paraphases is shown to be regarded as a secondary order parameter. Practical importance of the first fluctuation correction to the Landau theory is proved, when dealing with description of temperature behaviour of optical and dielectric characteristics. In the conditions of slow temperature variations for the case of incommensurate "re-enter" phases, the structure-defects interactions are demonstrated to be similar to those occurring in the other types of incommensurate phases.
