The thesis is dedicated to the investigations of reflection peculiarities of Ukrainian national character in Oles Gonchar's works about war. The thesis gives definitions of the terms "mentality", " national character", and comments upon factors, which form the national character. In the beginning the author investigates the early works Oles Gonchar, which were not investigated properly before, though these works prepared the ground for later writer's works.
