Essay

The text of dissertation and dissertation abstract provides the results of the study of factors, tendencies of dynamics and peculiarities of political identity in Ukraine in the ending period of crisis of "developed socialism" and at the beginning of formation of an independent Ukrainian state. Applying heuristic potential of categories "identity" and "political identity", as well as possibilities of modern methods of social studies, outcomes of other scholars' studies, statistical data about political involvement, results of sociological studies and information from other sources, the author elucidated and described social and psychological fundamentals, rational and irrational factors and characteristics of political identity in Ukraine in the middle of 1980-ies up to the beginning of 1990-ies. Peculiarities of the identity and tendencies of its dynamics that have been determined by historical experience of the population, influence of social, economic and political changes, ideological means and moral values have been revealed in the dissertation.
