Babakova O. Semantic Structure and Functioning of Sounding Verbs

The object of the study is the lexico-semantic group of verbs sharing common seme "produce sounds". The purpose is studying the peculiarities of lexical-semantic structure of affixless sound-nominative verbs and comprehensive analysis of their metaphoric functioning carried out on the material of Ukrainian language. The methods used in the study comprise descriptive method, analysis of components (semes) and elements of distributive analysis. The scientific novelty lies in the fact that for the first time in Ukrainian lexicology the study provides a comprehensive study of one of lexical-semantic groups of verbals - sound-nominative verbs, establishing the peculiarities of their functioning in metaphors. Practical value - results of the study can be used in lexicographic practice in compiling explanatory dictionaries, dictionaries of synonyms and lexical-semantic groups. Field is philology.
