Essay

The peculiarities of psychological and pedagogical conceptions of language education in Ukraine are elucidated in the research. Special attention is paid to theoretical models and methodological fundamentals of media education and upbringing in our and foreign Pedagogy. Media education or media literacy education abroad is introduced into educational establishments of all levels. It is promoted as an essential part of basic education that is far preferable to censorship as a means of addressing concerns about popular culture's influence on youth. Media literacy education is studied separately as an independent subject or integrally -in the course of some joint subjects (language arts, social studies, visual art, health, and information technology curricula). In our country media education makes only the first attempts for its development. Until now it was based on the cultural and instrumental theories of media education. The theory of critical thinking and the preventive one were not taking into account.
