Essay

Object - a semantic-grammatical asymmetry phenomenon on the noun morphological categories' level, means and ways of overcoming it; subject - noun morphological categories, in particular, the category of number, the category of animation/inanimation, the category of gender, in their asymmetric form and content expression; aim - to reveal the semantic-grammatical asymmetry in the noun morphological categories' sphere defined by the subject of this study; to ascertain its nature, reasons for its appearance, means and ways of its compensation taking into account modern tendencies of the Ukrainian morphological system development; methods - structural, descriptive, collation method, components' analysis method, distributive analysis method, history reconstruction method; novelty - that for the first time in Ukrainian linguistics a complex analysis of the semantic-grammatical asymmetry phenomena in the noun morphological categories' system of the modern Ukrainian language is carried out on a broad actual language material; certain factors of shaping the disparity between the form and the meaning within the grammar categories of number, animation/inanimation, gender taking into consideration close connection between lexics and grammar; and interaction of the categories; means and ways of asymmetric phenomena compensation are defined; the status of some facts and phenomena which had found a disputable scientific interpretation before is elaborated, this will make the correction of some characteristic principles in modern morphological descriptions possible; results - in the usage of thesis' materials while reading lectures; in compiling textbooks and manuals, methodical materials in Morphology of the modern Ukrainian language for higher and secondary schools, as well as in writing works in Theory of Grammar; branch - the Ukrainian language.
