In the first chapter the achievements in the Ukrainian anthroponymy in the sphere of name and surname study are outlined; the most important problems of onomastic science are specified; authroponymic and common anthroponymic denominations for identification of men of Zhytomyr region of the 16th-17th c. are analysed; productive and non-productive anthroponymic models and formulae of identification of upper class and lover class representatives are marked out.
