This dissertation is devoted to the study of influence which doctrine of Roman law has on legal science and law of countries of Romano-Germanic law family and in Ukraine. This work deals with the origin, development, and functioning of Roman law, its sources, system, structure, and understanding. Based on the research and analysis of scientific works, primary sources, and other normative legal acts the author had studied historiography and methodology of study of the Roman law beginning from the reign of Justinian and up to the present time. The author researched and studied the problems of origination of the system and structure of law of countries of Romano-Germanic law family by the Roman law and reception of Roman law and determined its role in the process of formation of sources of law in countries of continental Europe. An important area of the work deals with the problem of study of the Roman law as a historical source of formation of legal doctrine in countries of Romano-Germanic law familyand in Ukraine. The author formulated a number of provisions of theoretical scientific nature; in addition, he proved that practical use of Roman private law is possible if civil law currently in force will be improved by introduction of Civil Code of Ukraine based on the Justinian's Codification.
