Khodakovska N. Semantic and Pragmatic Aspects of Stylistically Coloured Derived Nouns in Modern German.

The thesis is a study of word-formational, semantic and pragmatic specificity of stylistically marked derived nouns in Modern German. The inventory of stylistically coloured and stylistically neutral word-building means has been established, the latter contributing into the stylistic markedness of derived nouns functioning in speech. It has been found out that affixal and semi-affixal derived nouns are characterized by expressive, emotive, evaluative and emotive/evaluative colouring. The conditions have been specified under which the expressive, emotive, evaluative and emotive/evaluative colouring of derived nouns is realized. Alongside with the stylistic markedness of derived nouns, their functional/stylistic and functional markedness have been considered. It has been found out that stylistically marked derived nouns functioning depends on the specificity of pragmatic parameters and communicative situations. The pragmatic component of the lexical meaning of stylistically marked derived nouns determines their pragmatic markedness and pragmatic variation which is realized in two forms - situational and stratificational - as well as their pragmatic potential.
