Essay

The complex clinical, electroencephalographic, neuroimaging investigation of 150 patients with epilepsy (E), completing questionnaires "Quality of Life in Epilepsy Inventory-89"(QOLIE-89) and "Methods for Psychological Diagnostics of Attitude Types towards Disease"(ATD) were performed. In-patients with E in comparison with outpatients experienced significant impairment in their quality of life (QOL) in the majority of QOLIE-89 domains. Epileptic patients developed statistically reliable "sensitive" ATD, comparing with the control group of patients. Thus, people with E are ashamed of their disease and tend to conceal it, being profoundly stigmatized by E. QOL and ATD didn't depend on gender, etiology of E and patients' age of the disease onset.
