Essay

The objective of the thesis is the solving of the problem of improvement of blast furnace coke Quality produced by Ukrainian coke plants to the level achieved by European cokemakers that is currently a challenge faced by our industry, by means of development and practical implementation of scientific fundamentals and technological concepts enabling efficient use of Donbass low reduced coals as a raw materials base for cokemaking. The composition, properties and behaviour of a variety of genetic types of Donetsk coals in terms of the reduction state of all grades usable for coking were investigated using both conventional and special methods (derivatography, infra-red spectroscopy, X-ray structure analysis). It was established that the relationship of the structural and chemical parameter 8 and metamorphism degree parameters (Ro,r, V^) do not depend on the genetic type of coals in their reduced state, while the relationship of the parameter and the technological properties parameters (y, RI, Fm) dependson the genetic type of coals is the reduced state. The volume-based mechanism and in the case of reduced coal the square-base mechanism was presented as the transformation mechanism of the permolecular structure during coking of low reduced coal. The efficient coal basis-related, grade- and component-based composition of coal blend was developed as well as technological conditions of their coking were determined that enabled the production of coke of European quality at the Yasinovsky and Makeyevsky coke plants. The economic efficiency achieved with introduction of this proposal is estimated at 20 million hrivnas (ca. USD 4 million) of which 10% by the expert estimate was secured by the efficient raw material base developed by the author.
