Essay

This research focuses on the problem of developing future teachers’ English grammar competence through applying the intensive learning method (tapping reserve capacities of individual learners and the group as a whole by G. Kitaygorodskaya). The methodology of developing future teachers’ grammar competence considering communicative as well as cognitive constituents in the integrated course of English has been theoretically substantiated and practically carried out. The ways of grammar material organization, presentation and analysis with consideration of students’ epistemological styles have been generalized. A cognitive metaphor has been introduced as a new type of the instructive grammar information. It has been proposed that the exercises for developing future teachers’ English grammar competence should meet certain requirements. The subsystem of English grammar oriented exercises has been elaborated to accommodate these requirements. The model of integrated teaching English oral and written speechwithin which first-year students’ grammar competence is developed has been designed. The effectiveness of the proposed methodology has been verified experimentally. The inductive way of English grammar acquisition using various types of the instructive grammar information has been proved. Methodological recommendations for developing future teachers’ English grammar competence through applying the intensive learning method have been elaborated.
