Shvets V. Lyudmyla Starytska-Chernyahivska historical dramatic art (problematic and poetics).

The objects are L. Starytska-Cherniahivska's historical plays. The aim is the systems analysis of the art concept of L. Starytska-Cherniahivska's historical plays. The methods are historical-comparative, analytical, descriptive, biographic. The contents and the structure, principles and devices of the artistic interpretation of the past, the development of the writer's skill in modelling the historical events of the struggle for the revival of Ukraine's state and the national character and in affirming the spiritual values have been researched systematically and in details in the dissertation. The genre evolution of L. Starytska-Cherniahivska's historical plays has been studied, and the following genre kinds have been distinguished: historical and lyrical play (Sappho), historical and social drama (Appius Claudius), historical and psychological drama (Hetman Doroshenko), historical and philosophical drama (Ivan Mazepa), historical and heroic drama (The Highwayman Karmeliuk), "play within a play" (The God's Mercy), historical and dramatic essay (The Last Sheaf). The stylistic peculiarities of the works, the traditional features and the innovative attributes of the modifications of the genre kinds, and the plot and composition constructions have been illuminated.
