Essay

The object is trilogy "The Kingdom of the Beast" by Merezhkovsky. The aim is to discover the specificity of the forms of expressing historical-philosophical conception in the trilogy "The Kingdom of the Beast" by Merezhkovsky. The methods are integrated, mytho-poetical, comparative-typological analysis. The investigation proves that the trilogy is one of the most important achievements of the writer and shows the main traits of his conception formed in the years 1905 - 1907. Eschatological by nature it made for the choice of epochs and historic personages for artistic realization: the assassination of Pavel I, the time of the reign and early death of Alexander I, the rule of Nikolay I and the uprising of the Decembrists. Those were times of crises in Russian history and they gave the writer an opportunity to show them as the moments of greatest strain in the choice between striving for the End of history and the "Kingdom of the Beast". The main historico-phylosophical problem, common personages actingfor a quarter of a century, and also a tendency to cyclic recurrence make this trilogy a single whole. The investigation proves the connection of this trilogy with the author's religious, philosophical and artistic concepts. The trilogy is part of the myth of Merezhkovsky about Russian history and it takes an important place in Russian literature of the beginning of 20 century. Application sphere is the training courses.
