Essay

The object of study – the process of formation and development of history knowledge in Kharkiv region, determines its role in the historiography of 1920-ies to early 1930-ies of the last century. The purpose of study is the illumination of activity of educators-local historians of Kharkiv region in historiographic process in 1920-ies to early 1930-ies of XX century. The methods used in the research are: chronological, comparative-historical, historical-genetic, retrospective, periodization, classification, analysis and synthesis, statistical, textological and biographic. This paper studies the process of formation and development of history knowledge in Kharkiv region and determines its role in the historiography of 1920-ies to early 1930-ies. Based on a wide variety of sources, local history study efforts of the local educators, which constituted a background for subsequent local studies, are studied in detail. The paper considers the organizational forms of educators' participation in local history study explorations, addresses the research, pedagogical and educational aspects of educators' local history study activities, illustrates the educators' contribution to study of local history, and summarizes the acquired experience.
