Essay

The dissertation substantiates the multi-dimensional theoretical model of self-perception of health, which alongside with the sensitive, emotional, cognitive and motivational components also includes subjective images of physical, affective, intellectual, social and mental health. The following criteria have been developed for health-perception diagnostics: feeling of corporal comfort, energy reserve; clear differentiation between the person's feelings and his/her ability to express them efficiently; anxiety level; degree of competence in the sphere of health; self-evaluation of health character; place of health in the system of values; level of internal motivation towards healthy lifestyle; level of the person's active treatment of his/her health; subjective value of various health aspects. The dissertation offers a new differentiation of health-perception types: infantile-optimistic, value-productive (mature), value-adaptive (conditionally mature), infantile-pessimistic, value-rejecting and hypochondriac-sensitive. It has been established that the infantile-pessimistic, value-adaptive and value-rejecting types are common with people suffering from stomach and duodenum ulcer. Health perception functions have been first described: directive, regulatory, cognitive-structuring, prognostic, channel, sanitation and communication-optimizing. The system of effective psycho-correctional measures aimed at the optimization of perception of health of patients suffering from ulcer has been developed. Key words: self-perception of health, self-perception of illness, attitude towards the illness, ulcer, psychological peculiarities of the patients, health psychology.
