The dissertation deals with the problem of forming senior pupils' reading competence in the school course of foreign literature. In the dissertation, literary and aesthetical premises of the reader response are analyzed. Psychological and pedagogical principles of the competence-based education are examined and applied to the foreign literature teaching practice...The efficient methodological system was suggested on the basis of original communication-oriented techniques and its empirical verification carried out. The main results of the research were applied in teaching foreign literature at secondary school.
