The dissertation grounded the expediency of the use of the epistolary heritage of the Ukrainian intelligentsia of late XIX - early XX c. for the investigation of lexico-semantic, stylistic and grammatical speech peculiarities of this social group. The investigation was carried out with the view of the cultural and socio-political context of that time; there was singled out the notion of the socio-lexis of intelligentsia and sociolectism; complex analysis of the epistolary texts in linguistic, social and normative-stylistic aspects was performed.
