Malyavin A. The category of condition: functional-cognitive aspect

In the thesis, based on the modern Ukrainian language material, the peculiarities of the category of condition realization in the language and speech are established by means of delineating its functional-cognitive parameters. The researched corpus includes seven thousand grammatical constructions conveying the semantics of condition. The structural-functional specificity of syntactic constructions with the meaning of condition has been defined; the place of the category of condition within the paradigmatic system of the Ukrainian language categories has been established; the formal markers of the categorial semantics of condition have been studied. The given work analyses the interrelationship between the categorial semantics of condition and that of purpose, reason and consequence; scrutinizes logical-philosophical foundations of conditional relations; focuses upon a detailed analysis of a structure and means of realization of the category of condition; reveals the peculiarities of implicit and explicit realization of conditional semantics in various syntactic structures; establishes the laws of transforming sentences having the meaning of condition as well as the peculiarities of the paradigm of sentences having the meaning of condition; discovers the cognitive potential of the category of condition, the connection of condition with the cognitive space of a person, a group of people and a nation.
