Golichenko L. Denominations for Agricultural Lands and Cultivation Processes in the Ukrainian Language.

Dissertation analyses the composition, structural organization, semantics of denominations for agricultural lands and cultivation processes in the Ukrainian language. The results of investigation show that thematic vocabulary for agricultural lands and cultivation processes is formed on a specific basis. The basic lexical units are ancient by origin; they are documented in relics of written language in different periods of the development of Ukrainian and represent a part of lexical composition of Modern Ukrainian reserving the semantic structure. A considerable part of current lexical units was transformed to the terminological system of agriculture; it reflects a conceptual instrument of agronomic science. The vocabulary for designations of agricultural lands and cultivation processes is widely presented in works of art as a mean of reflecting farming culture of Ukrainians that has been formed for ages, as well as a mean of recreating their mentality. The author has created the dictionary "Denominations for Agricultural Lands and Cultivation Processes in the Ukrainian Language", which contains 3100 lexemes.
