The dissertation in dedicated to the study of human existence problems which are well represented in the Boryslav period of Ivan Franko's works. On basis of the stories "Ripnyk", "Inverted Sinner", "At work", "Yatz Zelepuga", "Poluyka", "Boa constrictor" and the novel "Boryslav Laughs" the main existential states represented in I.Franko's works were analyzed, such as anxiety, fear, guilt, conscience, choice, death, hope. The system of existential symbolic marking was found out. These existentials were marked by concepts of Boryslav, swap, mire, chasm, pit and sleep. In the research the nature of I.Franko's esoterism connected with his attitude towards human labour as an essence of spiritual forces was given, philosophic-existential aspects of "self-sufficient person" were described. The author analyzed the means of psychological analysis of existential states, portrait and inner speech being the most productive among them.
