Essay

Object - L.Carroll's stories, novel and poems, novels by V.Woolf, V.Nabokov, A.Murdoch, poems by T.S.Eliot, essays by E.Sewell. Objective - to explore the manifestations of Carroll's imagery and the special kind of nonsense, way of reproduction of the artistic reality in English-speaking literature of the 20th c., the influence of one stage of literature on another not only on the thematic and problematic levels, but also on the level of images-answers, responses. Methods - combination of historical-literary, literary-theoretical, philological textual analysis with philosophical-esthetic categorical analysis, exploration of historical dynamics of "nonsense" concept in fiction in wide philosophical and cultural context. The analysis shows that perception of the modern world is based not only on accepting Carroll's conception of childhood (V.Woolf), reproduction of "child's" way of thinking and inheritance of wordplay principle (V.Nabokov), perception of the main features of Carroll's nonsense (T.S.Eliot), but also in conflict and contradiction with such mentality (I.Murdoch). Sphere of use - educational process.
