The thesis concentrates on the “capital text” on the systematical analysis of “Petersburg” and “Moscow” stories of N.Gogol and M.Bulgakov. It also deals with the comparative analysis of their crea-tive works on the different levels such as topics, problems, motive, the system of images, artistic speech, style, genre and others. Within the thesis, the category of ‘the capital text” has been specified. The im-ages, grotesque, fantasy, comic and tragic are studied in “Petersburg” stories by N.Gogol and “Moscow” stories by M.Bulgakov. The complex interrelation of different components and dialogism in writers’ stories are analyzed within the framework of the thesis. It has given us the possibility to characterize the changes in the artis-tic consciousness in XIX-XX centuries. The tradition of “the capital text” in Russian literature started from N.Gogol’s creative works. It includes the play of extremity, the polarity of movement, polyseman-tics, the poetics of myth. “The capital text” of N.Gogol madeM.Bulgakov create the new text.
