The work is devoted to the investigation of poetical compositions of M.Chernyavsky. The evolution of writer's views is observed. The main lyrical motives, predominant genres and images are characterized. There has been attempt to revise the works of M.Chernyavsky in the context of Ukrainian literature of the end of 19 th - the first ten years of 20 th centry. Key words romantism, newromantism, symbol, psychologism, modern, mental bifurcation, lyrical hero.
