The dissertation is the first consistent study of fiction interpretation of the Cossackhood in Ukrainian historical novels of the first half of the XX century, its social topicality, philosophic implications and artistic value. Historiography and fiction correlation has been worked out and their problematic and analytic aspects have been identified.Key words: historical novel, genre, historical realia, fiction interpretation, Cossackhood, author's version, genre modification.
