Essay

The dissertation focuses on the study of assortment of introduced and native varieties and estimation of growing technology elements of lettuce in the centre of Right-bank Forest-steppe of Ukraine without irrigation. The head lettuce varieties appeared to show higher yields than leaf lettuce. The best variants of investigated technology growing elements of lettuce were estimated as economically reasonable. The efficiency of growing head lettuce seedlings in 4?4 cm cells sown during the second decade of March and transplanted outdoor during the third decade of April was proved. It resulted in increasing the yield by 5,3-20,2 ton per hectare depending on the variety compared with the seedlings grown traditionally. It was established that in 2005-2007 higher yield was obtained with the use of band planting schemes - 26,1-59,7 tone per hectare ((20+50)?20 cm - 143 thousand plants per hectare), 26,0-53,2 ton per hectare ((40+40+60)?20 cm - 111 thousand plants per hectare) depending on head and leaf lettucevarieties. Among wide row schemes the best location of plants was 45?20 cm (111 pieces per hectare) - 19,7-52,3 ton per hectare. The main results of the research were tested in real field conditions and were recommended for practical application.
