The thesis is devoted to the analysis of the system of romantic motifs and images in the prose of V.F. Odoevsky (1803-1869), who is a representative in philosophical trend in the development of Russian romanticism. Main types of motifs of writer's literary works are classified (philosophic, mystic, fantastic and allegoric, grotesque, folklore) and also ways of their embodiment are researched in the dissertation. Peculiarities of artistic images and main functions of romantic motifs in writer's works are analyzed: imagogical, genre-formation, stylistic, constructive, dynamic functions. The notion of "motif" and "motif system" is extended. System analysis of romantic motifs and images in the prose of V.F. Odoevsky has big meaning for more deep understanding of writer's works, of his artistic mentality.
