Essay

Object: mass communication as a process of social reality construction. Aim: development of a conceptual basis for sociological study of social reality representation in mass communication texts. Research methods: comparative analysis and synthesis, logical generalization, typologization, content analysis, discourse analysis. Theoretical and practical results: application of the concept of representation of social reality in the sociological analysis of mass communication texts; description of television news as a genre of mass communication; empiric interpretation of representation of social reality in mass communication texts in the aspect of social reality thematization, problematization and "agency" based on the comparative research data of Kharkiv news ATN and "Objectiv"; the use of results in scientific and practical media analytics. Novelty: development of conceptual grounds for sociological research of the features of social reality representation in mass communication texts based on regional television news. Degree of application: the dissertation results have been used for educational courses "The Foundations of Social Communication", "Sociology of Mass Communication" in sociology department of V.N.Karazin Kharkov national university.
