In dissertation considerable attention is spared theoretical and methodological principles of research of activity of institutional investors. Own interpretation of concept is offered „ institutional investors". The row of signs of classifications is offered for dividing of institutional investors by groups. Certainly basic mechanisms and instruments of the institutional investing. The dissertation considers expedience of the use of term „system of institutional investors". The basic stages of development of institutional investors are discovered in Ukraine. The analysis of efficiency of activity of institutional investors is conducted in Ukraine. It is offered and considers basic directions of increase of efficiency of activity of institutional investors in the economy of Ukraine.
